The Conservation Advisory Committees of Taghkanic, Gallatin and Copake, the Climate Smart Communities Committee of Claverack and the Columbia Land Conservancy, are pleased to announce the third in a series of presentations on forest stewardship for Columbia County landowners: The Forest in Your Backyard: A Homeowner’s Guide to Managing Woodlands

On Saturday, May 10, Tracey Testo-Smith, Agroforestry and Natural Resources Program Manager at Columbia-Greene Cooperative Extension, will speak on “What Landowners Can Do to Maintain and Improve the Ecological Health of Their Woods.” Testo-Smith is an experienced educator and presenter on forestry and agroforestry topics.  She will outline an approach any landowner can take to assess and address the condition of their woodland and various available resources to aid in developing, implementing, or funding a plan of action.  Participants will walk away with knowledge and skills relevant to maintaining and improving the ecological health of their woods, as well as tools to develop a management plan for their property.

The presentation will take place at the Taghkanic Firehouse, 631 Old Route 82, W. Taghkanic, NY, from 10 a.m. – noon, and will also be available via Zoom at this link:
