The Taghkanic Board of Fire Commissioners seeks a part-time secretary to provide administrative and clerical support for the board’s operations. This role involves meeting preparation, compliance with state laws, maintaining records, and managing correspondence. Priority will be given to residents of the fire district.
Key Responsibilities:
Schedule and prepare agendas and materials for board meetings; attend and record accurate minutes.
Post public notices for meetings, budget hearings, and elections in compliance with New York State Open Meetings Law.
Maintain organized records of board activities and manage official correspondence.
Track and ensure timely filing of annual compliance documents (e.g., AFR).
Assist with budget preparation, election notices, and coordination with local agencies.
Qualifications:
Experience in administrative or clerical roles (fire district or municipal experience preferred).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of or willingness to learn New York State Open Meetings Law.
Time Commitment: Approximately 10–15 hours per month, with increased workload during budget and election periods.
Compensation: A competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience, with an expected annual range of $3,000 to $7,500, depending on hours worked.
