Since it's inception in 1910, more than 130 million young men and women have participated in the Boy Scouts of America youth programs. Locally, our Scout programs are open to young men and women age 11-17. The BSA provides a youth program of character development and values-based leadership training, helping young people to be "Prepared. For Life."
BSA Troop 2752 B&G, is chartered by Hillsdale's VFW Post 7552. The boys group is led by Scoutmaster Donald Coons and Assistant Scoutmasters Riley Clark and Karl Weingaertner (both Eagle Scouts from the troop). Scoutmaster Dawn Lawson-Weingaertner leads the girls group along with Assistant Scoutmaster Natasha Coons. A number of volunteers assist both troops. While there are two separate groups, they meet at the same time and place, 6:30-8pm, on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Taghkanic Fire House on Old Route 82.
In addition to bi-weekly troop meetings, the scouts perform community service in the Taconic Hills area, and participate in a week of summer camp every August, several weekend camping trips throughout the year and various day activities that range from hiking to snow tubing and roller-skating. The troop is youth led, and these activities vary depending on what the youth plan.
Fundraising is conducted to help cover program award costs and equipment expenses, as well as helping to offset a family's individual costs. If you have any questions or want to learn more about our local troop, please contact Donald Coons at coons82@yahoo.com.
