Gabriella Coons is a proud member of Scouting America Troop 2752 in Hillsdale, which meets at the Taghkanic Fire Company. Gabriella has been a scout for seven years and a senior patrol leader presiding over scout meetings for the last two. In 2024 she completed Scouting America's National Youth Leadership Training Program course and this year she is on staff, teaching younger scouts leadership skills. Gabby has 65 merit badges and is a member of the Order of The Arrow as Brotherhood (a program within Scouting America that recognizes Scouts who exemplify the Scout Oath and Law).
Gabriella helps with conservation projects and community service every chance she gets. She exemplifies all that Scouts America represents. She also happens to be on the Taconic Hills High Honor role (every quarter for the past two years) AND was just selected as the AFSA Outstanding Cadet NCO of the Year. As a member of the Civil Air Patrol she was awarded Cadet of the quarter three times in a row. She's earned honor credit for every rank that allows it. Gabriella is also an accomplished public speaker and competed for FFA in 2024 placing first place in District for Public Speaking and first place in District for extemporaneous speaking in 2025.
Now Gabriella has set her sights on becoming the first female Eagle Scout in Columbia County. For her Eagle Scout project, Gabriella is partnering with the Hillsdale VFW to create a meaningful and lasting tribute to our veterans. A gazebo will be installed at the VFW post in Copake to visit for reflection and remembrance. To make the structure truly special, she will incorporate the story of poppies—a symbol of remembrance—within the gazebo, with artificial poppies gracing the exterior. The ceiling will feature murals representing each branch of the military, honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation’s soldiers.
The gazebo will provide a peaceful and contemplative space for visitors to mourn loved ones, pray, or simply find solace. It is Gabriella's intention that this project will stand as a lasting tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for our country.
